Thanks for checking out the Ramble volunteer sign-up site. Chances are you helped last year — or know someone who did. And we’re glad you’re thinking about the role you can play this year.
- If you’re ready to sign up now, click here. (Don’t forget to read and acknowledge the volunteer waiver form that our insurance folks want us to have in place.)
- If you’d like some more information about the teams and tasks, click here.
- If you’ve got a question, check out the FAQ’s here. And if we haven’t answered yours, please contact volunteer team leader Mary Conrad at ramblevolunteer@rambleride.org
Our Second Ramble In Brief:
Last year’s successful event required the volunteer efforts of almost 100 of our Club members. We’ll need at least as many this year.
- Date: June 12, 2010 at Drew University in Madison.
- New: A 35-mile route (now 5 choices), but we’re keeping the same great food, planning a larger expo and working to raise even more donations and visibility for the emergency squads we help.
- Where: Drew University, Madison and the “downright historical” roads in our area. At Drew, we’ll have the use of their field house, “real” bathrooms, and an air-conditioned space for lunch after we head in from our rides.
- What: 5 rides, all with great roads and great sights based on our historic theme. We’re planning on 12/25/35/45/65 or thereabouts. The shortest ride, planned to attract new cyclists to our sport, will head out on a “3-college tour” of Drew, FDU and St. E’s. The 25 and 35 will take riders through some of the most historic areas out New Vernon way. The 45 and 65 will offer some challenges and a great rest stop in Jockey Hollow that will include an optional loop with Rangers waiting to give a talk or tour.
- Who: Us, of course, the Freewheelers, under the auspices of the new MAF Foundation. But Atlantic Health and our other first-year sponsors are backing us again. And the Expo will feature exhibits, demonstrations, shopping, giveaways and more from our sponsors, the National Park Service and other non-profits in our area.
- Why: A number of reasons: To raise money that will go to help strengthen the leadership of the local Emergency Squads that are vital to us as riders and to our community. Last year, we were able to donate $14,000 to help the dedicated EMS squad volunteers — and let them know how significant their personal contributions are to all of us. But we’re also hosting the Ramble: • To promote the fitness and fun benefits of cycling. • To highlight our area’s incredible history. • To attract newcomers to cycling or seasoned riders to the Club. • And to reinforce the idea that bikes belong — for recreation, transportation and personal and community health.
